A bit of advice from The Minstrel, this is the result of years of experience.
Rule 1: The Artist is always right, even when they are clearly wrong, stark-staring mad or just plain barking.
Rule 2: The Artist’s husband/wife or current life and bodily-fluids partner is always right, even when they are clearly wrong, stark-staring mad or just plain barking.
Rule 3: The person who currently is the Artist’s New Best Friend is always right, even when they are clearly wrong, stark-staring mad or just plain barking.
Never argue with the Artist’s husband/wife or current life and bodily-fluids partner: you put the Artist in an impossible position. Even if the Artist’s husband/wife or current life and bodily-fluids partner is clearly wrong, who do you think the Artist is going to risk falling out with; the musician who at the end of the show/session will disappear into the murky depths of the local flesh-pots/drinking dens, or the person who will accompany the Artist back to the hotel and administer whatever treatment the Artist has convinced said partner is the only way to soothe the pain of being tortured on the rack of their own genius? It’s a no-brainer.
